Sandra was known for being highly capable at work and super dependable as a friend. However, when it came to romance, she found herself experiencing a painful pattern.

Things seemed great in the beginning. He was charming and attentive, always concerned for her. Then his concern morphed into criticism – questioning her judgment, challenging her values. Sandra really cared for Chad and wanted their relationship to work, so she doubled down on her efforts to please and adapt to him. She knew he had gone through a lot of hard stuff in his life, so it seemed like the loving thing to do to overlook as much as she could.

“Maybe he just needs to see how much I love him,” she thought.

Over time, it became more and more difficult to keep her feelings bottled up. Sandra didn’t want to “burden” her friends with her problems, especially since she was known as the go-to for support and advice.

But things weren’t getting better.
