Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?
My office is conveniently located in Murfreesboro at 745 S Church St., Suite 127D, which is on the 2nd Floor of Building A in the Belmont Park office complex.

How long are the sessions?
Session for individuals and couples are typically 55-60 minutes long.
How often will we meet?
Most of the time, clients find that meeting weekly will enable them to gain momentum and see the results that they are seeking more quickly. This is what I recommend. As goals are met and change is experienced, many clients choose to spread the sessions out but want the ongoing benefits of a supportive therapeutic relationship to maintain their changes as well as work on other issues that arise.

Clients are always welcome to return for a “tune-up” session where we check in about how things are going, review what’s working and what’s not, and identify things to tweak, for example. They may also decide to re-engage in more regular sessions to work on something new.

Does it mean I’ve “lost it” if I’m considering coming to counseling/therapy?
Certainly not! It takes courage and a level of maturity to be willing to acknowledge the need (or desire) for professional assistance during a time of difficulty. Having an objective and compassionate outsider with the necessary skill and expertise to walk alongside you can help transform the struggle you’re experiencing into a profound opportunity for healing and growth.

Many people reach out when the pain of staying the same has become more than the fear of change. Others address things more proactively and reach out sooner or as a preventive means. Sometimes it’s an issue that can be worked out within a few sessions together; sometimes, it takes longer. Sometimes, it’s something that involves many layers. Whatever it is, we’ll work together to identify what is going to be the best path forward for you.

What are the benefits of therapy again?
I’m glad you asked! By engaging in therapy, here are just a few things you’ll likely experience:

  • The transforming power of being seen, heard, known, and accepted in the context of an attuned and empathic relationship
  • Increased understanding and acceptance of yourself and others
  • Help in identifying and changing faulty beliefs and patterns that are interfering with your life
  • Empowerment to live more consistently from your core values
  • Practical tools and strategies to effectively deal with difficult emotions and relationships
What can I expect in the first session?
In the first session, I’ll spend time getting to know you and more about what is bringing you in for therapy. You’ll be getting acquainted with me as well. You have the freedom to share as much or as little as you want about the things I ask. You’re ultimately in the driver’s seat.

Frequently, my clients express feeling a lot of relief about having taken the opportunity to begin to process in a safe and manageable way the things they have been struggling with. They come away with a fresh sense of hope that things really can get better.

How does your faith impact your work?
I am a follower of Jesus, and walking with Him profoundly influences my life and worldview. I became a counselor/therapist because this is what He has called me to do!

I find it an honor to walk alongside people on their path of healing and growth, and I especially enjoy helping Christians who want to incorporate their spiritual beliefs into the process.

However, I do work with people of all spiritual beliefs and with those who don’t want their spirituality to be a point of emphasis at all. I aim to meet each individual where they are and build on the resources that they find are strengths to them.

If at any point you have further questions about this, feel free to ask!

What is your cancellation policy?
For cancellations less than 24 hours in advance, there will be a charge for the full fee of the session, except for medical emergencies.
What are your office hours?
Monday                    11am – 7pm
Tuesday                   12pm – 7pm
Wednesday              11am – 7pm
Thursday                  10am – 6pm
Friday                       10am – 3pm
Are you going to make me take medication?
Since I’m not a medical doctor, I won’t be prescribing you any medication. However, there are people who feel and function better when taking medication for a mood or mental health issue. This may be part of their long-term self-care, or for a season, and there’s no shame in that.

My approach, if you’re not already on medication, is to see about other interventions or changes that could be made that may prevent you from having to go that route. I can provide referrals for a medical evaluation by a psychiatrist should that need arise.

Do you offer video/distance counseling?
YES! Telehealth sessions are available through a secure video platform to residents throughout TN, PA, and IL. This is an option that can offer greater flexibility and convenience. Research has shown virtual sessions to be just as effective as in-person sessions. Let me know if this is something you’re interested in. Otherwise, I love working with clients in-person too and welcome you to my comfy local office space.
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance. Upon request, I can provide a statement that you may submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. You will need to check with your insurance company to find out if and how much they will reimburse for services provided.
