Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your office located?
How long are the sessions?
How often will we meet?
Clients are always welcome to return for a “tune-up” session where we check in about how things are going, review what’s working and what’s not, and identify things to tweak, for example. They may also decide to re-engage in more regular sessions to work on something new.
Does it mean I’ve “lost it” if I’m considering coming to counseling/therapy?
Many people reach out when the pain of staying the same has become more than the fear of change. Others address things more proactively and reach out sooner or as a preventive means. Sometimes it’s an issue that can be worked out within a few sessions together; sometimes, it takes longer. Sometimes, it’s something that involves many layers. Whatever it is, we’ll work together to identify what is going to be the best path forward for you.
What are the benefits of therapy again?
- The transforming power of being seen, heard, known, and accepted in the context of an attuned and empathic relationship
- Increased understanding and acceptance of yourself and others
- Help in identifying and changing faulty beliefs and patterns that are interfering with your life
- Empowerment to live more consistently from your core values
- Practical tools and strategies to effectively deal with difficult emotions and relationships
What can I expect in the first session?
Frequently, my clients express feeling a lot of relief about having taken the opportunity to begin to process in a safe and manageable way the things they have been struggling with. They come away with a fresh sense of hope that things really can get better.
How does your faith impact your work?
I find it an honor to walk alongside people on their path of healing and growth, and I especially enjoy helping Christians who want to incorporate their spiritual beliefs into the process.
However, I do work with people of all spiritual beliefs and with those who don’t want their spirituality to be a point of emphasis at all. I aim to meet each individual where they are and build on the resources that they find are strengths to them.
If at any point you have further questions about this, feel free to ask!

Are you going to make me take medication?
My approach, if you’re not already on medication, is to see about other interventions or changes that could be made that may prevent you from having to go that route. I can provide referrals for a medical evaluation by a psychiatrist should that need arise.
